Highlights of Ayodhya Babri Masjid Land Dispute


After 40 days of hearing (2nd longest hearing of any case in Indian history), in the Landmark Judgement of 1045 pages on 9th Nov, 2019, the Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi led 5-judges bench has delivered its final verdict on Ayodhya land dispute granting land possession to Ram Lalla and an alternate 5 acres of land to Sunni Waqf Board to build a mosque in any prominent place in Ayodhya. In addition to this, a Board of Trust is to be formed by the Central government which will look after the construction and maintenance of the temple.

Article 21: Protection of Right to LIFE and PERSONAL LIBERTY

Article 21 provides for Protection of Right to Life and Personal Liberty. It states that: "No person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law". 

In the original constitution, Article 21 provided protection only against arbitrary executive actions but not against arbitrary legislative actions. Thus, to overcome this limitation in Article 21, American concept of "due process of law" was introduced in Maneka Gandhi Case of 1978 which provided for Right of Survival along with Right to Live with Dignity.

Supreme Court's verdict to play National Anthem before screening of movies | By UpscVidya

Supreme Court has made it compulsory to play full version of National Anthem of 52 seconds and display the national flag on the screen before a movie starts playing in cinema hall and everyone has to stand-up in their seats in respect of National Anthem. The Supreme Court has passed this judgement to inculcate feeling of patriotism in the countrymen and make them realize that they are bound by duty to give respect to National Flag and National Anthem as stated in clause(a) of Article-51A.
