The below SERIES question was asked in SSC CGL 2019 (Tier-1) exam held on 4th June, 2019, Shift-1, SET-1.

Q. Select the set in which the numbers are related in the same way as are the numbers of the following set.
(9, 35, 16)

(a) (16, 50, 64) 
(b) (25, 30, 4)
(c) (36, 55, 25) 
(d) (81, 65, 36)

SOLUTION:

Correct answer is: (c) (36, 55, 25)

Observe the given numbers set carefully: (9, 35, 16)

    (i)  9 --> square root of first digit 9 is 3
    (ii) 16 --> square root of last digit 16 is 4
    (iii) 35 --> Add (i) and (ii) and multiply it by 5 
            i.e., 3 + 4 = 7;    7x5 = 35


Now repeat the above steps to check which option matched the pattern.


Option (a): (16, 50, 64) 

    (i) 16 --> square root of first digit 16 is 4
    (ii) 64 --> square root of last digit 64 is 8
    (iii) 50 --> Add (i) and (ii) and multiply it by 5 
            i.e., 4 + 8 = 12;    12 x 5 = 60

The actual result (60) does not matches the expected result (50). This Option (a) is incorrect


Option (b): (25, 30, 4)

    (i) 25 --> square root of first digit 25 is 5
    (ii) 4 --> square root of last digit 4 is 2
    (iii) 30 --> Add (i) and (ii) and multiply it by 5 
            i.e., 5 + 2 = 7;    7 x 5 = 35

The actual result (35) does not matches the expected result (30). Thus, Option (b) is incorrect.


Option (c): (36, 55, 25)

    (i) 36 --> square root of first digit 36 is 6
    (ii) 25 --> square root of last digit 25 is 5
    (iii) 55 --> Add (i) and (ii) and multiply it by 5 
            i.e., 6 + 5 = 11;    11 x 5 = 55

The actual result (55) matches the expected result (55). Thus, Option (c) is Correct.


Option (d): (81, 65, 36)

    (i) 81 --> square root of first digit 81 is 9
    (ii) 36 --> square root of last digit 36 is 6
    (iii) 65 --> Add (i) and (ii) and multiply it by 5 
            i.e., 9+ 6 = 15;    15 x 5  = 75

The actual result (75) does not matches the expected result (65). Thus, Option (d) is incorrect.
