The below SERIES question was asked in SSC CGL 2019 (Tier-1) exam held on 4th June, 2019, Shift-1, SET-1.
Q. Which number will replace the question mark (?) in the following
series ?
3, 7, 16, 35, ?, 153
(a) 84 (b) 74 (c) 78 (d) 63
SOLUTION:
The solution for the above question is you multiply the number by 2 (example: 3 x 2 = 6), then add +1, +2 and so on to find the next number.
The steps to solve the series will be:
1) 3 multiplied by 2 will give 6 and add 1 to it, result equals to 7.
2) 7 multiplied by 2 will give 14 and add 2 to it, result equals to 16.
3) 16 multiplied by 2 will give 32 and add 3 to it, result equals to 35.
4) 35 multiplied by 2 will give 70 and add 4 to it, result equals to 74 .
5) 74 multiplied by 2 will give 148 and add 5 to it, result equals to 153.
- 3 x 2 = 6
+1 = 7
- 7 x 2 = 14
+2 = 16
- 16 x 2 = 32 +3
= 35
- 35 x 2 =
70 +4 = 74
- 74 x 2 = 148
+5 = 153
Answer: (C) 74
