National Sports Awards 2020

Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs announced National Sports Awards 2020 on 21st August, 2020.

The 12-members Selection Committee of National Sports Awards 2020 was headed by former Judge of Supreme Court of India - Justice (Retd.) Mukundakam Sharma.

The awardees will receive awards from the President of India (Ram Nath Kovind) at a specially organized function through virtual mode from Rashtrapati Bhawan on National Sports Day (29th August, 2020).

National Sports Awards

National Sports Awards are given each year on National Sports Day which is celebrated on 29th August to mark the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the great hockey icon who lead India to win three consecutive Gold Medals in Olympics in year  1928, 1932 and 1936. 

Each year Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs give sports awards to recognize and reward excellence in sports. The awards are given under four categories:

  1. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award
  2. Arjuna Award
  3. Dronacharya Award
  4. Dhyan Chand Award

Apart from these four awards, Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar and Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award are also awarded. A Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) trophy is given to the top performing university in inter-university tournaments.

19th Asian Games - "Smart Triplets" to be the official MASCOTS

19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China in 2022. Three robots called as Smart Triplets will be the official mascot of 19th Asian Games. 19th Asian Games will be organized by Olympic Council of Asia.
